Be My Horde flips the traditional bullet-heaven formula on its head by casting you not as the desperate survivor, but as the tyrannical villain. Playing as Moriana, a deliciously unhinged necromancess, your goal is simple: slaughter the living and command their corpses. It takes the addictive loop of games like Vampire Survivors and injects it with a heavy dose of dark, tactical power-tripping.
The core mechanical twist is that you do very little direct fighting; instead, your rapidly expanding undead army does the heavy lifting for you. Every peasant, knight, and stray sheep you slay can be instantly resurrected to join your screen-filling swarm of loyal minions. The gameplay becomes a fascinating exercise in momentum, as you herd your ravenous mob into enemy lines, watching the battlefield transform from an organized defense into a chaotic meat grinder.
Visually, the game boasts a striking, hand-drawn 2D art style that masterfully balances grim gore with cartoonish charm. Moriana herself is a highlight, frequently breaking the fourth wall to mock the player or relish in her own villainy, brought to life by excellent voice acting. The high-energy soundtrack, fusing metal and orchestral elements, perfectly matches the frantic, blood-soaked energy of each crusade.
While the meta-progression upgrades follow a fairly standard roguelite blueprint, the unique joy of controlling the horde keeps it feeling distinct. The game can suffer from occasional visual clutter when hundreds of entities clog the screen, making it tough to track Moriana’s precise position. Nevertheless, it is an immensely satisfying, fast-paced power fantasy that proves being bad can feel incredibly good.
