Love and Decay: Let’s Make a Harem in a Zombie World (Vol. 1)

Let’s Make a Harem in a Zombie World bursts onto the scene with an incredibly absurd, unapologetic premise that gleefully mashes together post-apocalyptic survival horror and over-the-top ecchi comedy. In a world overrun by the flesh-eating undead, our protagonist, Kotaro, stumbles upon a bizarre biological miracle: his own body fluids contain the literal, absolute cure to the zombie virus. Suddenly, the desperate struggle to survive is transformed into an urgent, hilariously intimate crusade to build a harem of survivors to keep the plague at bay.

As Kotaro navigates this nightmare landscape, the story quickly establishes a highly entertaining rhythm. Each new survivor he encounters introduces a fresh set of personality dynamics and survival challenges. The narrative does a surprisingly good job of balancing classic post-apocalyptic tropes—like scavenging for supplies and barricading safehouses—with the absurdly urgent need for physical intimacy. It is a formula that could easily fall apart under its own ridiculousness, but the writing embraces the campy fun so completely that it is hard not to get swept up in the ride.

The visual presentation is a major selling point here. The artist does a fantastic job of contrasting the dark, decaying, and genuinely creepy zombie-infested backdrops with incredibly detailed, vibrant, and highly attractive character designs. Underneath the shameless fan service, there is even a subtle, engaging look at the profound isolation that comes with the end of the world, highlighting how physical connection becomes a powerful tool for restoring hope and sanity.

Naturally, this is a highly niche title designed for a very specific audience. Readers looking for a serious, scientifically grounded zombie survival epic will find the logic behind the “cure” utterly ridiculous and will likely be put off by the frequent, explicit adult setups. But if you are willing to completely suspend your disbelief, this volume offers a wonderfully trashy, fast-paced, and laugh-out-loud funny take on the apocalypse.
