This Monster Wants to Eat Me Vol 3

This Monster Wants to Eat Me Vol 3 takes the story into even deeper, darker, and weirder territory—and honestly, it’s fantastic. If Vol 1 was about survival and Vol 2 was about connection, then Vol 3 is all about conflict. The emotional kind, the physical kind, and the kind where you’re not sure if a kiss or a chomp is coming next. And that’s exactly what makes it so compelling.

Our poor protagonist is finally starting to realize they’re in too deep. The monster, who by now feels less like a simple predator and more like a complex force of nature with feelings, is struggling too. You can practically feel the tension in every scene. They want to be close—but what does “close” mean when one of you could literally devour the other without thinking twice? This volume plays with that push and pull beautifully.

What makes Vol 3 stand out is how much it leans into the dangerous romance. Sure, there are still creepy monster encounters and terrifying glimpses of what lurks in the shadows, but the focus has shifted. Now it’s about trust. Can the protagonist trust the monster who was literally created to destroy them? Can the monster trust itself not to lose control? It’s a twisted dynamic, but the manga somehow makes it feel raw and honest.

New threats creep in this time around, too. Turns out, the world is a lot bigger than just one human and one monster. There are other creatures, some curious, some hostile, and others who look at the protagonist like a delicious snack they’re overdue to claim. This forces our original monster to step up in a big way, protecting their human not just out of hunger… but maybe something dangerously close to love.

The art stays gorgeous and unsettling in equal measure. The close-ups of the monster’s shifting expressions—sometimes tender, sometimes predatory—are seriously stunning. The backgrounds get darker, the atmosphere heavier, and yet somehow there’s still beauty in the horror. Even the quieter moments are tinged with tension, like something could go horribly wrong (or horribly right) at any second.

Plot-wise, Vol 3 drops some lore bombs. We get hints about why these monsters exist, what the protagonist’s role in all of this might be, and what it could mean for their fragile alliance. It’s not all spelled out yet, but the breadcrumbs are there, teasing a much bigger mystery that’s been lurking behind the scenes this whole time.

By the end of the volume, you’re left with more questions than answers, but in the best way. Will this strange bond between human and monster survive what’s coming next? Is it really love, or just a more elaborate form of possession? And most importantly… who’s really in control here?

Overall, Vol 3 takes everything that made the first two volumes addictive and raises the stakes emotionally and narratively. It’s still creepy, still romantic, and still riding that razor-thin line between affection and annihilation. If you’re in for the ride, Vol 3 makes it clear: things are only going to get darker—and maybe, just maybe, sweeter too.
